Domino Waste Water Recyclers

Product Bulletin

Introduction

Project Environmental has been involved in the treatment of industrial waste water since 1994. Our specialty has been in hydrocarbon and solids removed with our Australian designed and manufactured product installed throughout all states, South-East Asia, U.S.A and the U.K.

Prior to water restrictions in Australia our mission was to allow discharge of waste water directly to the environment via rivers, creeks and drains for remote areas, mine sites, power stations and the like. In recent years our expertise has been applied to recycle this water for re-use in process water, wash water and occasionally in production.

Car and Truck Wash

This industry presented new issues in regard to OH&S. Our equipment needed little modification to meet the requirement of the car wash industry from a clean, solids free requirement; however our concern at corporate level was for the health of the user of recycled water.

Testing apparatus was set up in our factory with Ultra Violet, Ozone and Chlorine dosing systems purchased to analyze the most efficient means of effective sterilization that would also meet our requirements of relative simplicity and cost minimization.

In a laboratory situation all methods trialed were successful however only chlorine provided sterilization we could measure on site daily, both manually and automatically, and is our chosen process. The car or truck wash operator can take a simple sample on a daily basis to be sure the recycled water is safe to the consumer.

Our system doses chlorine to the water at a pre-determined rate. As an extra feature, our CMS (chlorine monitoring system) can be incorporated to automatically monitor chlorine levels and dose accordingly.

Recycled water produced by the Domino Series will continuously produce water for re-use with the typical parameters listed here.

Risk

As the Domino range is designed to treat all typical waste that can be produced in vehicle washing, only introduced contaminant can foul the system. While there is minimum risk of this occurrence, Domino systems will only be installed where the sites are manned and C.T.V security is installed.

Water Loss

The car and truck washing process will typically lose 10-20 percent of the reclaimed water through, overspray, drive-off and evaporation. As the recycled water has a percentage of detergent residual, an effective wash will require a fresh water final rinse for customer satisfaction. This requirement will make up for the water loss and allow the system to run continually. With ever increasing town water costs and the shortage of this valuable commodity Project Environmental recommend the installation of a Storm Water Harvesting and maintenance system on the site.

Storm Water Harvesting

Most sites are relatively large and rain water can be harvested from both roof and hard stand areas for storage and later use. Rain water harvested from hardstand area can be soiled more than roof water and the stormwater collection gullies should be replaced in the design by a gross pollutant trap.

Rain events in Australia are notoriously short and heavy therefore storage capacity should be maximized. However with large storage, the issue of maintaining the health of this water must be considered. Our suggested treatment is to re-circulate and oxygenate the water through Vortex aerators. Sterilization is not generally required.

If sterilization is incorporated, chlorine is not to be used due to possible sludge creation from its reaction properties.

The harvested water is then filtered to 1 Micron before use in the car or truck wash. Mains water supply is plumbed to the rainwater holding tanks to supply automatically once the rain water is at low level.

Maintenance

Historically our work has been in remote locations and reliability has been a key issue. The Domino systems have only three moving parts apart from the pumps. Top quality renown brands of helical rotors and diaphragm pumps cause little problem for long periods. Certain day to day observations will ensure trouble free and efficient treatment.

Daily

1.      Check and clean silt trays, beach pits or drains

2.      Check chemical levels and replace if necessary

3.      Check alarm and fault lights

Weekly

1.      Remove skimmer and clean debris screen, check flexible hose for blockage or wear

2.      Check pressure on cyclone housing (8-12 bar)

3.      Clean or replace filter bags in vessels 1 & 2.

Storm Water Treatment

Water has become a precious resource in Australia. Now, more than ever, industry must incorporate a rain water harvesting catchment system at their premises to be used either throughout the premises or in their process.
Rain events in Australia are notoriously short and heavy and therefore storage capacity should be maximised. *Many sites are large and rain water can be harvested for re-use from both the roof (or rooves) and hard stand areas.

Legislation is pending that these large volumes of stored water may have health issues and that the harvested water is to be maintained in a safe and clean condition. Also, the when being used in a process within a factory or washing facility may need treatment to maintain equipment integrity or warranty.

Project Environmental have developed systems to cater to all needs in both the Storm Water Maintenance (SWM) and Storm Water transfer (SWT) areas.

The degree of treatment is determined by the contamination level of the harvested rain water and the size of the storage.
Where harvesting from the roof may be relatively contaminant free, it may be an area where birds congregate and subsequently excrement may be present. Harvesting from hard stand areas can produce varied problems in the form of solids, oils and even pH.

Due to the number of variables like storage capacity, above or below ground storage etc it is difficult to offer “off the shelf” pricing. If you are interested in considering a storm water solution please take a look at our website’s storm water treatment section, or call us 1300 368 108.

*This storage can be either above or below ground.
